Best Desserts for your Toddler

For their size toddlers have greater nutritional needs than adults therefore it’s a good idea to try and make desserts and sweet treats as nutritious as possible. Nutritious desserts can make mealtimes more exciting as well as providing an opportunity for your toddler to get the energy and nutrients that they require. Desserts should not be given at the end of every meal but every so often as part of a balanced diet. Here are some examples of nutritious desserts:

  • Stewed apple and custard
  • Yogurt and fresh fruit
  • Tinned fruit e.g. pear, pineapple or peaches (always choose ‘tinned in natural juice’) and custard
  • Blueberry pancakes and yogurt (can also make with strawberries or raspberries as another option)
  • Banana bread
  • Homemade ice pops (using yogurt and fruit)
